Glucose Management and Prevention

Blood sugar, or glucose, is the main sugar found in your blood. It comes from the food you eat, and is your body's main source of energy. Blood carries glucose to all of the body's cells to trigger energy.

How is glucose related to diabetes? Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose is too high or too low. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy.

How important is nutrition? Nutrition and physical activity is EVERYTHING when you have diabetes or glucose intolerance.

People with insulin resistance should concentrate on these important guidelines.

  1. Boost your fiber intake

  2. Eat more whole grains

  3. Eat food that provides “good” unsaturated fats

  4. Focus on wholesome, non-starchy foods such as (fruits) berries and grapefruit. (Vegetables) spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, and peppers. (Proteins) fish, tofu, dairy products, eggs and lean meat

  5. Avoid processed or junk food
